I’m continuing my series of islands here is South Jersey that you should consider visiting. Stone Harbor is in between Avalon and Wildwood, and is home to many art shops and specialty boutiques. No matter where you stay in Stone Harbor, the beach is within walking distance.
First, I’ll start off by admitting that Stone Harbor has the best fireworks display on the 4th of July. I can go just down the street to see fireworks, but I often choose to travel to Stone Harbor because the kids can play on the beach while waiting for the fireworks to begin.
Of course, you may want to travel to Stone Harbor during one of the other summer months. If you do, you’ll want to stop in the Wetland’s Institute. This is my daughter’s favorite spot because she loves animals of all kinds. The institute has free aquarium feedings where the children can touch the animals in the touch tank. There are always educational programs, and summer camps for the kids throughout the summer as well.
96th Street in Stone Harbor is perhaps the most famous street. Here you will find a movie theater, clothing shops, art stores, specialty shops, restaurants, and ice cream parlors. Just find a place to park and spend an afternoon or evening walking up and down the street to discover all it has to offer.
One year, my girls and I met Jane Seymour in Stone Harbor. She comes down to sell her paintings, which are magnificent. She is very sweet in person, and even took the time to ask me questions about my daughter who suffers from Angelman Syndrome. Anyway, you never know who you’ll run into when you visit this summer island.
