Take it from somebody who has experience. Traveling during the off-season is a must. I’ve been to Disney World in the middle of January, and over Easter break. The kids and I had such a good time in January. There were no lines and the weather was perfect. Easter, however, was a nightmare. It was so hot one of my kids got physically ill, and the lines were so long that we missed out seeing much of the park.
According to Reader’s Digest, traveling during the off-season also results in big savings. Hotels will offer discounts on rooms as much as 50% off, and airline prices are also less during the off-season because there is less of a demand. Some amusement parks and noteworthy attractions will also lower their prices during the off-season in an attempt to attract more visitors.
If you work outside of the home, there is also a better chance that you will be able to get time off during the off-season. Summers and holidays will likely result in your coworkers asking for time off, which would mean more competition in securing those dates. I work from home so this doesn’t really apply to me, but I have lots of friends who face this issue.
Securing the best price when traveling during the off-season includes looking up the online price for the vacation, and calling the destination itself. Sometimes the venue will have a promotion going on that is not listed on the website. It is best to check first to ensure that the vacation costs you as little as possible. You can put the savings in a jar and use it to go on another vacation later.
