I love theme hotels. They aren't as popular as in the past, but there are still many to choose from. The Madonna Inn, located on the southern coast of California (San Luis Obispo), is one of them.
When the inn opened its doors in 1958, it consisted of 12 rooms. It grew to include a coffee shop, a dining room, a bakery, a wine cellar, two gift shops and more.
Today, the hotel offers guests the choice of 110 rooms, all decorated differently. Many of the building's rails, doors and beams are hand carved. The coffee shop features large etched glass windows. There is also a spa, pool and fitness center on the premises.
Of course, I can't tell you about all of the rooms in one short post. However, here are a few that caught my attention.
The Cabin Still room has a luxury cabin feel with rich leather furniture, a king size bed, a rock shower and floor and a replica of a moonshine still, in the bathroom.
Harvard Square is BEAUTIFUL. The three bedroom, two bathroom, suite is reminiscent of an English country retreat. It features a sitting room and large stone fireplace. There's even an attic room with three twin beds.
The Tall and Short room has an interesting history behind it. It was originally furnished to accommodate guests of different heights. Today, the pretty pink and burgundy room features standard size furniture and a private outdoor balcony that makes it easy to enjoy the inn's beautiful surroundings.
Madonna Inn amenities are many. They include wireless Internet access (free in public areas, fee in room), coffeemaker, on-demand movies, terry bathrobes, extra large pool towels, complimentary newspaper and much more.
Have you ever stayed in a theme hotel? If so, what room did you choose and why?
