With the end of civilization approaching quickly, money becoming scarce and jobs disappearing like dust in the wind, vacation has become no less important to Americans. Camping, always a time honored tradition for Americans is becoming the vacation style of choice in these tough times.
For the price of one night in a crappy motel, a family can get out into nature for an entire weekend, breathe some fresh air and master their S’more techniques. California State Parks rent their spots for a measly $25 a night. For what you’d get at the local Motel 6 for twice that price, I’d rather sleep outside anyway. For National Parks camping, people can use Recreation.gov to book camping in all 50 states. Need ideas? How about Yosemite, Arches National Park or a weekend in the Ozarks? Although it’s mid-summer, there is still time to reserve good spots, especially later in the season. No camping gear? Throw some blankets in the SUV and sleep in the back, it’s warmer that way anyway. Bring the bikes, the kids, the pets too. Many campsites allow dogs on leash (watch out for Raccoons, not that they attack often but dogs tend to hear them all night). The best part is that campsites are almost as common as motels and are located in some of the most scenic places our country has to offer. Plus, it’s cheap. Aside from state and Federal camping there are many privately run campsites too. Pair what you like too, there are campsites near lakes, river rafting, beaches, hiking, horseback, history and ecology or you can just drink at your site. Save some money this summer, go camping.
